Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) in Guelph

Feeling stuck in emotions, fears, or repeating patterns, even when you can’t explain why?

Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) is a gentle chiropractic method that helps identify and clear emotional stress patterns that can steer your health and choices. Created by Dr. Scott Walker DC, NET bridges mind and body so you can let go of the stressors weighing you down to heal deeply and feel more yourself. Dr. Alyssa Shepherd offers NET in a warm, judgment-free space where you’re truly heard.

How a Session Works

Here’s the simple flow. You think about the issue (or place a hand where you feel it), and Dr. Alyssa uses gentle muscle testing to find the involved meridian and emotion. You’ll hold specific acupressure points and use guided breathing to help your body let go; optional light tapping along the spine may be used, and at times you might briefly recall an earlier event with the same pattern. Sessions are collaborative, typically last 30-60 minutes and do not involve traditional chiropractic adjusting (although if you wish to be adjusted, Dr. Alyssa is happy to do so inside your appointment time).

What NET Can Help With

People come to NET for many concerns; here are common themes it can address.

  • Limiting beliefs that keep you from what you want
  • Emotions and mood concerns like anger, sadness, or low motivation
  • Fears and phobias
  • Repeating life patterns that don’t make sense
  • Body image concerns and disordered eating, including food cravings and regulation
  • Stress-related patterns that may influence physical tension or symptoms

Why Patients Choose Dr. Alyssa Shepherd

Dr. Alyssa is a Level 2 NET practitioner; beginning her NET training in 2017, she certified in 2020 (Level 1) and 2023 (Level 2). She recommends starting with about six visits; published studies show significant brain changes on functional MRI after a similar series, and many patients feel a change even after the first session. NET is a beautiful complement to gentle bodywork or can be done as stand alone treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Neuro Emotional Technique (NET)?

NET is a mind-body chiropractic method that helps release stuck stress patterns in the body. Dr. Alyssa uses gentle muscle testing, meridian points, breathing techniques, and sometimes light spinal tapping to help your nervous system process and clear emotional patterns that may be contributing to physical symptoms or feeling stuck.

What does an NET session feel like?

Patients often describe NET sessions as calming and surprisingly gentle. You’ll remain fully clothed while Dr. Alyssa uses muscle testing to identify stress patterns, then guides you through simple breathing while holding specific meridian points. Many people report feeling lighter, more at ease, and more emotionally regulated after a session.

How many NET sessions will I need?

Every person is different, but research shows meaningful changes in brain-function typically occur after about six visits. Dr. Alyssa will discuss a care plan tailored to your specific needs and adjust as you progress.

What issues can NET help with?

NET can support stress, mood patterns, fears, phobias, body image concerns, emotional patterns, as well as physical tensions, pain and dysfunction that affect your wellbeing. It’s designed to help calm your nervous system and release patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

Is NET safe for children?

Yes. NET is gentle and can be adapted for children. Dr. Alyssa can work directly with your child. Sometimes, due to the child’s age or specific circumstances, parents or the caregiver attending the appointment with the child is asked to help in the process. This can be discussed at the outset of care, or within any visit.

How is NET different from regular chiropractic care?

While traditional chiropractic focuses primarily on structure and alignment, NET is a somatic (body-based) approach to address the emotional and stress-related components that can detract from vitality and optimal health. Dr. Alyssa blends both approaches, looking at structure, biochemistry, and emotion together for more complete care.
